The Warm Sunshine
The sunflowers in this painting seem to be jumping out of the two-dimensional flat surface. Using vivid and swirling brushstrokes, coupled with the strong contrast of warm and cools tones between the background and the flowers, Wu has created the visual effect of the flowers extending themselves outwards from the surface. The processing of the background is also worth taking a special note, since it reveals the artist's deep observation. These geometric colour blocks can quickly remind us of the old-fashioned style of wrapping flower bouquets in plastic papers. It is reasonable that he uses such method so our views are focused on the flowers, and it brings out a strong sense of the passage of time, and allow us to be seized with the sudden impulse to recall faded memories of the past.
